When we remove your braces, you will begin the retention stage of treatment. Your final orthodontic result depends on retainer wear.
Dr. Lisenby uses three different types of retainers, and will decide which is best for you.
- *Essix – A removable retainer made of clear plastic that is made to fit your teeth. This retainer cannot be seen when it is worn. This retainer can be made for your upper and lower teeth.
- *Hawley – A removable retainer made of acrylic with a wire that runs across the front of the teeth. This retainer can be made for your upper and lower teeth.
- *Bonded – This is a fixed retainer that cannot be taken out. We bond (attach) a small wire to the back of your lower front teeth. This wire cannot be seen when you smile and is easy to get used to. We generally only use this retainer on the lower teeth.
Removable retainers will need to be worn full-time for the first two months after getting your braces removed. After the first two months, Dr. Lisenby will usually reduce the time to night wear only.
